“I know how to identify the risk factors during birth”

Traditional midwives and users of the new traditional birth centre assemble during the centre opening

I have learned many things about how a baby is born. I have learned about the pains that the woman has before and during delivery. I know how to identify the risk factors during birth. Now I am not afraid to attend a woman when she is at the point of giving birth. The most important change is that I now understand when to tell a woman to push.

Right now, people still come looking for the (elderly) midwife, because she has proven time and again that she can do a good job. So, I go with her and I learn from her, and people tell me they will come looking for me when she is no longer available to the community.
